EGYPTIAN GODS CALENDAR

For this project I wanted to create a calendar that shed some light on twelve of the most famous Egyptian Gods,

specifically the ones with animal attributes.

Rather than doing the traditional depiction of a human body with an animal head,

I wanted to illustrate them fully as the animal they were associated with.

I researched each Egyptian god, looking at the real life animals they were depicted as, the statues and ornaments of them as animals and their what they were gods of. I then combined them into my own interpretations.

Because I wanted these images to be fun and lighthearted, I tried my best to make them friendly for all ages.

For example, Anubis is known for guiding souls in the afterlife to the Scales of Judgement, he then weighs their hearts against a feather to decide if they can be granted eternal life. So for my illustration I made this Jackal version of Anubis act like a playful dog with a plush heart in his mouth, ready to take it to the scales.

The calendar is not just for humour purposes. I added simplified descriptions at the bottom of the each month that explained who each god was and why they were depicted as that specific animal. I also included the hieroglyphic spelling of their names, and made the Egyptian theme run throughout, from the main image to the date squares and borders.
